Autumn Alumni Event

The School of Coaching's autumn alumni event is aimed at anyone who has been through one of our coaching programmes. It will be an interesting mix of speakers, round table discussions and supervision sessions. Speakers at the event will be:

Paul Hunting – The Art of Natural Leadership

Paul is Director of the Natural Leadership Centre and author of 'Why talk to a Guru? when you can whisper to a horse'. The art of natural leadership is to recognise high-performance as natural expression - something that wants to be released. Natural leadership continually seeks ways of working smarter, more effectively, more efficiently. Paul's work demonstrates the boundary between our humanity and our inhumanity and in so doing he challenges us to explore who we really are.

Tony Faulkner – Coaching or Controlling? 'Tales from the world of Professional Football'

Tony is a former footballer now working as a performance coach at Blackburn Rovers Football Club. He will talk about his career from footballer to support staff and how his coaching ideas contrast to those within the footballing tradition. He challenges perceptions of the coach as expert and contrasts this with the need for player led decision making on the pitch.

During the final session you will be given the opportunity to choose how to spend your time. Two alumni, Nigel Benwell and James Thorne, will be speaking about their experiences following completion of the Coach's Programme and will give insight into how they have developed their own coaching client base. We have a limited number of group supervision places available with Judith Firman and we will also facilitate a group discussion in an area of coaching interest.

Myles Downey – Coaching for Performance

Following the alumni event, we will be hosting a drinks reception for friends of the School and clients which you are welcome to attend. Myles Downey will talk about his concern that coaching is almost exclusively focused on the learning and development agenda and how coaching for performance is neglected. He will argue that there is a considerable danger to the profession in this bias and also suggest that it is in this area that alumni can differentiate themselves. Myles will also refer briefly to his recent thinking about how 'The Inner Game' theory impacts the effectiveness of coaching and also to a new offering from the School aimed at the Leadership and Management populations – Coaching for Performance and Productivity.

Please note that places are limited and we strongly advise booking early to avoid disappointment. To secure your place, please complete and return the event booking form below.
