11/02/2010 - The School of Coaching Acquired by JMJ

Global management consulting firm JMJ Associates, LLP has acquired London based The School of Coaching, strengthening both companies shared purpose of making a difference in the world through coaching and consulting others, developing individuals, teams and organisations to transform their performance.

“ A licensee and beneficiary of The School of Coaching’s methodology prior to the acquisition, JMJ is delighted to fully add the core competencies, staff and faculty of The School of Coaching into our proven business lines,” says JMJ CEO StephenPortner.

“This acquisition is a strategic move for both parties, broadening the clientbase, depth of expertise and value we each bring to our clients.” Formed in 1997, The School of Coaching was Europe’s first organisation to teach coaching as a means to enhance workplace performance. It since has earned a reputation for enabling an impressive range of prominent organisations across the public and private sector to reach levels of team and individual performance previously unattained: BHP Billiton, Lloyds TSB and Price Waterhouse Coopers among them. Myles Downey, The School of Coaching founder, Master Coach and author of 'Effective Coaching', co-developed the GROW model, arguably the most widely recognised and applied approach to business coaching in the world.

“Joining JMJ at this point in our history just makes good sense,” reflects Downey. “The values-match between our cultures is excellent, we certainly each understand and apply the power of professional coaching to achieve business results, and The School of Coaching team will benefit from the solid business structures JMJ has formed for itself over its 21 year history. Most importantly, becoming part of the JMJ community will allow us to spread our ‘difference-making’ more quickly around the globe.”

“A primary objective as we blend the two firms,” adds Portner, “is ensuring that The School of Coaching’s existing and former clients know that the quality of coaching they have enjoyed will remain the same, while broadening the service capacity the school has been able to deliver. Our aim is to reinforce and build on The School of Coaching’s well-known brand. We look forward to working together to do so.
